Waste Processing Procedure

Only Liquid Waste and Organic Waste should be introduced to the Sewerage System. The Biolytix BioPod is a state-of-the-art biological sewerage and fertilisation system reliant upon microbial life for waste processing. To preserve that life and the concomitant operational health of the system the following restrictions should be strictly adhered to:

  • Bleach, disinfectant and other chemicals kill the microbes and should never be flushed.
  • Coffee grinds, citrus and onions are difficult to process and should be minimised.
  • Non-biodegradable wipes, plastics, tampons and the like cannot be processed and will clog the sewerage system.

The Umukuri Waste Disposal Policy for the five categories of waste is:

  • Liquid Waste: Flushed to the sewerage system.
  • Organic Waste: (a) Flushed to the sewerage system or (b) Composted.
  • Recyclable Waste: (a) Exfilled to the mainland or (b) Stored on-site for future utilisation if useful.
  • Solid Waste: (a) Exfilled to the mainland {bottles and cans in particular} or (b) Burnt if combustible.
  • Hazardous Waste: (a) Exfilled to the mainland or (b) Diluted in a water source. (N.b. hazardous is a catch-all term applied to all other inorganic compounds, most harmless.)
